December reading and what themes to expect as the year comes to a close
December marks the official solstice transition between fall and winter. The world’s energy goes from shaking off the last of consciousness into full collective hibernation. In short, the earth completes the lifecycle, dies, and is reborn.
This Romany spread shows December’s coming energies. The reversed 10 of Wands suggests that the month’s beginning will likely involve some need to prioritize. The reversed Queen of Cups speaks of new long distance connections, and strengthening of existing ones, both professional and personal (familial or romantic), popping back up. I hear that even some close-up connections can feel a little more distant due to long-needed boundaries, perhaps having to do with a water sign. The Eight of Cups brings the exit from a longtime venture, connection, favorite tv show, or even flavor of ice cream early this month as well.
The World, card 21, is at your oyster as you embark upon new opportunities (it also hints at something amazing happening right at the solstice on the 21st!). A reversal of the 10 of swords can bring healing from past wounds. You may feel spiritually graduated as things that used to deeply haunt you don’t phase you early this month. In fact, get ready for those past scars to make you some coins, as the 10 of Swords spills right into all 10 of the reversed 10 of Pentacles. You’re turning straw to gold!
The Five of Pentacles brings one of the season’s first snow falls in the first two weeks of the month for those who live in places that have winter. Perhaps a vacation to or away from the cold in those first two weeks as well. If you’re going somewhere tropical, watch risky holiday drinking and loss of control with the King of Cups above the reversed Temperance, as well as possible injuries during water sports!
The middle of the month and nearing the equinox bring a victory with the Six of Wands. A new spiritual counselor or business mentor will likely help you through something that would be much more difficult without them. Don’t worry, the Hierophant shows up just in time to float you over that reversed Three of Swords.
As the month reaches its final act, you’ll be working smarter, not harder with the reversed Eight of Pentacles. Whether it's a Virgo who is showing you brilliant shortcuts, or a brand new beautiful space that allows you all the resources you need to get your stuff done, you’ll be making your work work for you. While the Emperor puts you in the throne of your own kingdom and the driver’s seat of your own life, the Six of Swords shows that you’ll be having a significantly easier time here than probably most of the year before it.
But, you’re no Fool this time around, even though the card makes a reversed appearance. While you likely won’t be lacking optimism, you’ll have a plan and an intention that can carry you over any hiccups that would have set you back in the past. The Three of Pentacles says the month will not be over before you have new talents and beautiful goods to show off.
After one last minor disappointment at the month’s end, you’ll be in soul connection with yourself and ready to take on the world and the adventures of the new year with the reversals of the Two of Cups and the Hermit.
